Now you can become the owner of a bolt that has been part of the ship Vasa after she was salvaged. The money will go directly to the work of replacing Vasa's supports to help preserve the ship for the future.
When Vasa was salvaged in 1961 – after 333 years on the seabed – the original rivets in the hull had rusted away. New steel bolts were driven so that the ship could be held together and salvaged. Eventually, these bolts also rusted, which negatively affected the wood in the ship. They have now been replaced with new specially designed stainless steel bolts that should last at least 150 years.
After nearly 200 of the old bolts have been taken care of by the Vasa Museum and restored, they are now available in the museum shop, beautifully packaged in a custom-made case. To become the owner of one of the unique bolts that held the ship together for 60 years, one can make a donation of SEK 11,500.
All the money goes directly to the important work of replacing Vasa’s support to preserve the ship for the future.
